The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has issued expulsion certificates to Minister Nyesom Wike and others, following their removal at the party's Ibadan convention. This decision, made at a NWC meeting in Abuja, was led by Acting Chairman Umar Damagum, who transferred leadership to Senator Kabiru Turaki. The certificates were issued to address the legal issue of dual party membership, as Nigerian law prohibits it. The certificates were sent to Wike, former Governor Ayodele Fayose, and others, informing them of their expulsion and certifying their status as no longer PDP members. This move aims to prevent accusations of dual party membership. Turaki emphasized the party's focus on rebuilding and credible leadership ahead of the 2027 elections. However, the expulsion has sparked controversy, as it occurred despite court orders prohibiting the convention until legal disputes were resolved. The Wike-loyal faction, led by figures like National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, rejected the convention's legitimacy and held a parallel meeting, expelling opponents for similar anti-party activities and court order violations.
