'I am going to kill him': Shock as two stabbed during derby day pub fight (1)

Neighbours have told of seeing 'blue lights all over the place' after two people were stabbed and a third injured during a fight outside a pub.

They reported chaotic scenes and spoke of crowds 'running around' during the disturbance outside the Anglers Arms pub in Failsworth, Oldham, at almost midnight on Sunday.

Locals said the pub, on Wrigley Head, had been packed with people watching the Premier League derby day match between Manchester United and Manchester City at Old Trafford earlier in the afternoon.

Greater Manchester Police said two peoples suffered stab injuries and a third a head injury. It's understood the third victim had an object thrown at them during the disturbance.

GMP said their injuries were 'not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing' A man, aged 28, was arrested later and remained in police custody on Monday. He was held on suspicion of wounding with intent and possession of a class A drug.

Today - as a residents woke up to a police scene and cordon - neighbours told of hearing screams and shouts. One said they heard the words: "I am going to kill him."

One neighbour reported seeing a 'huge crowd of people' coming out of the pub and onto the street outside, with a man being hit on the head with an object.

Another said: "We heard shouts and screaming after we went to bed last night. I looked outside and there were people everywhere. Some seemed to be running.

"There was loads of cops here and they were knocking on people's doors afterwards."

One man told the M.E.N. the pub was busy with football fans watching the game. He said: "There was a lot of noise and I heard screaming. I heard someone shouting 'I am going to kill him'."

Another said: "There were a lot of people outside the pub yesterday for the football. It seemed to go quiet then it went dead loud.


"I looked out of my bedroom window and there must have been eight police vans. There were blue lights all over the place."

A stretch of the road was sealed off by police tape today, with officers stood at either end of the cordon turning traffic around.

Plastic yellow evidence markers could be seen on nearby roads and pavements, including on the pub's car park.

In a statement, GMP said: "Emergency services responded to reports of a fight outside a pub on Wrigley Head in Failsworth at 11:45pm yesterday (Sunday 6 April 2025).

"It's believed that two victims were stabbed. They received medical treatment and thankfully their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing. A third victim suffered a head injury.

"A 28-year-old man was arrested nearby on suspicion of wounding with intent and possession of a class A drug. He remains in police custody.

"A scene remains in place with our investigation is ongoing. "

No further details have been revealed.
